Employee Awards and Recognition

Customer Service Award

  • Purpose and Scope: To recognize an individual who embodies the manifestation of the ICARE (Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Empowerment) Values
  • Information required: date of employment and beginning/current title and briefly explain how your employee exceeded customer service expectations.
  • Customer service awards and gift certificates are typically presented annually at the holiday event 
  • $50 gift card 


Caught You Doing Something Good Award

  • Purpose and Scope: To provide prompt/immediate recognition of employees’ outstanding short-term performance and special efforts. To enable Directors/Supervisors to give immediate thanks to an employee for a job well done that deserves special recognition.
  • Excellence in one or more of the following may be considered: Service, Teamwork or collaboration, work ethic, safety, communication, performance, and attitude
  • The performance/behavior must be of positive benefit to the City of University City, the department, co-workers and/or customers or enhance the city’s image, provide cost-savings, or enhance service.
  • $50 gift card


Years of Service Award

  • These awards are based on the start dates found in the employee’s personnel file
  • Both HR and the Departments work together to identify these awards annually
  • Awardees receive a certificate, lapel pin, and gift card
    1. 5 years = $50, 10 years = $100, 15 years = $150, 20 years = $200, 25 years and beyond = $250


                Employee of the Year Award

  • Purpose and Scope: To recognize an individual that has demonstrated consistent, extraordinary service, achieved a significant accomplishment, provided innovative solutions, or completed a special project or activity.
  • All regular full-time and part-time City employees are eligible, except Department Heads
  • Nominations may be submitted by any City of University City employee (no self-nominations)
  • Employees recognized for an award are eligible once every three years
  • This award is typically presented annually at the holiday event
  • $250 gift card



All nominees must be in good standing within their department and the City. Specific accomplishments must be typed on the nomination form.
