Candidate Filing Information for April 2, 2024 Municipal Election

An election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, for the purpose of electing a Councilmember, from each of the City’s Wards (1, 2 or 3), for a term of four years each AND a Councilmember for the unexpired Ward Two term ending in April 2026.  Nominations shall be made by petition signed by no fewer than 50 and no more than 75 registered voters who are entitled to vote for the candidate in the Ward where they live. No voter can sign more than one nominating petition for the same office. 


Candidate Informational Packets and Petition Forms may be obtained at City Hall, 6801 Delmar, 2nd floor, room 4 or online: https://www.ucitymo.org/28/City-Council-and-City-Clerk.


There is a $50.00 (cash or check only) fee to file and filing must be completed at the City Clerk’s office. The first day of filing will be done by lottery drawing by the candidate and subsequent filers will follow on the ballot as submitted.  


Filing opens on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at 8:00 a.m.  Filing will close at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Each Declaration of Candidacy must be filed with the City Clerk at the City Hall, 2nd floor, room 4, 6801 Delmar Blvd, University City MO.   


Declarations will be accepted at City Hall as follows: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Please note City Hall will be closed as follows:

• Friday, December 22, 2023 – Closing at 12 noon

• Monday, December 25, 2023 – Closed the full day

All candidates must be qualified voters in University City and a resident thereof for at least 3 consecutive years prior to election, be a resident of the ward from which elected, cannot hold any other elected public office or compensatory position in the City government, and be current on all state and city taxes.
