Third Ward Revitalization Plan - Community Ambassadors Wanted

Are you passionate about improving the Third Ward community? Would you like to work directly with neighbors and partners to make positive change happen?

3rd Ward VolunteersIn the spring of 2023, the City of University City selected a team led by Yard & Company (Planners) to facilitate the creation of a Revitalization Plan for the Third Ward. The City and Planners will work with local residents and a variety of community stakeholders – nonprofits, faith-based organizations, anchor institutions, supportive services agencies, businesses, and others – to create a forward-looking Plan with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.

We are seeking up to five Community Ambassadors who are currently residents of the Third Ward neighborhood to assist in the planning and engagement process. Assistance will be needed starting July of 2023 and ending with the completion of the Plan, which is expected to be in December of 2023. Each Community Ambassador will be provided a stipend of $15/hour. Ambassadors are expected to contribute approximately 10-15 hours of work a week. The

Community Ambassadors will be required to:
● Have access to transportation
● Have internet and email access
● Attend periodic training sessions
● Attend and help lead community meetings (typically in the evening)
● Participate in periodic team conference calls and meetings, both online and in person (typically during the day)
● Provide regular updates and outreach to local neighborhood associations, block clubs, churches and other organizations
● Organize and attend smaller meetings with neighborhood residents and stakeholders
● Help to conduct surveys, and compile data
● Perform outreach to neighbors both safely door-to-door and/or by phone
● Provide detailed notes and documentation of activities as needed
● Provide their ideas and input throughout the process

Candidates for the Community Ambassador position will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Age diversity: As a group, Ambassadors should represent different age groups in the community.
  • Geographic diversity: As a group, Ambassadors should represent different neighborhoods within the 3rd Ward.
  • Representative demographics: As a group, Ambassadors should be representative of racial demographics of the 3rd Ward.
  • Overall availability: As a group, Ambassadors should be available during the morning, afternoon and evening.
  • Diversity of residency: As a group, Ambassadors should reflect both long time residents and more recent arrivals.
  • Homeowners and renters: As a group, Ambassadors should reflect both homeowners and renters in the 3rd Ward.
  • Communication skills: Ambassadors should have good communication skills to reach other local residents.
  • Demonstration of passion: Ambassadors should be passionate about improving and bringing opportunities to the 3rd Ward.
