Ameren Missouri is prepared for tonight's expected winter storm, but severe weather can cause power outages. Please feel free to share this information on your websites and social media.

Once an outage has been reported please refer to the outage maps for number of outages, cause, estimated restoration times, etc.

Winter Safety Tips

*Avoid going outside and be aware of downed lines and poles if you must be outdoors.

*Prepare an emergency kit with supplies (flashlight, radios, batteries, non-perishable foods, water, medicines, blankets, warm clothes, etc.)

*If you lose power during a winter storm, remember the following:

*Turn off lights and unplug appliances to prevent damage and overloading circuits once the power is restored.

*Keep faucets on at a drip to prevent pipes from freezing.

*Dress warm and in layers.

*Close doors to unused rooms in the house.

*Be cautious when using alternative heat sources and keep rooms properly ventilated.

*Block cold air from coming in by stuffing towels underneath doors.

*Ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) for electrical outlets can help prevent injuries and electrocutions when installed in areas that may be affected by melting snow or ice. You can also purchase portable GFCIs for your emergency supply kits.

Please remember these safety tips for downed power lines:

• If you see downed power lines, stay away at least 10 feet, warn others and call Ameren to report the location.

• Never drive over a downed power line.

• Never touch any electrical power lines. Keep your family and pets away from the lines.

• If a tree or branch falls on an electric line, call Ameren to report the location.

• DO NOT remove a tree limb or other object from a power line. Electricity can travel through objects, especially when they are wet.

• Don't attempt to rescue someone who makes contact with a downed power line - you could become a victim yourself. Call 911.

• Stay away from anything a downed power line comes in contact with, including fences or trees.

• Remember, it's hard to tell the difference between an electric line, a telephone line or a cable line. Treat any line as an energized and dangerous line.

Please be safe out there!
